Park Guide

The Park Guide provides front line information and interpretive services for visitors in the daily operation of the site. Incumbent performs a variety of duties related to the effective interpretation of the park and to the operation of the facilities within the Historic Site. The incumbent provides support to interpretive and other program personnel such as assisting with special event setup and take down; serving as a member of task and event-oriented teams; and assisting other park staff in the performance of work such as time and attendance reporting, travel assistance, etc. and donation collection. Under the supervision of higher graded employees, helps present talks providing general information based on the interpretive themes of the park. Programs are generally brief and given to small groups of visitors. Greets visitors, provides basic orientation to the site and local area, provides safety messages, responds to questions in person and by telephone, assists with trip planning, works in the cooperating association sales area, and restocks supplies. Uses and maintains audio/visual equipment and other interpretive equipment. Utilizes computers and completes accurate visitor statistics. Maintains bulletin boards and various interpretive exhibits. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/22/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40
hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, Park Guide or tour leader; naturalist; environmental educator or teacher; or other similar work. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, such as American history, science, public speaking, parks and recreation, education or communications. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Volunteer

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
